We are here to help people with building their websites and chat with other website owners in a space conducive to our Code of Conduct.

Think of the 32-Bit Cafe as a third place, like your local coffee shop.

The Baristas, or moderators, monitor what happens inside the walls of the Cafe, but we can't do background checks on every visitor that comes through the door. We are responsible for the safety of the folks who interact with each other in the Cafe, based on their behavior to other people in the Cafe.

If someone has hateful or illegal content on their website and participates in 32-Bit Cafe events and discussion spaces, we will remove that person and have before. However, someone joining our Discord server, Discourse forum, or any other 32-Bit Cafe space is not an endorsement of anything on that person's website from 32-Bit Cafe staff, other members, or former members. Someone participating in 32-Bit Cafe events does not make them a card-carrying member (as anyone who joins any 32-Bit Cafe space becomes a member), nor does that create an endorsement of that person's website contents, beliefs, opinions, or actions.

If someone is doing something illegal on their website, please notify the appropriate authorities. If someone is doing something to you, please let a Barista know as soon as you feel comfortable so we can take action. Website content that isn't discriminatory or illegal does not fall under our jurisdiction.

The 32-Bit Cafe is a loose collective of people—there is no member's list or formalized signup process. There is no vetting of anyone who comes through the door, because 32-Bit Cafe spaces are public.

The moderation team is not aware of every transgression that exists within online spaces, and this often leads to a disconnect between "callout culture" that exists within social media and spaces like ours. We cannot be expected to be aware of every hotly debated topic that exists online.

We know we want a safe, welcoming space for folks to be able to build their websites and hang out with other website owners that follow a Code of Conduct. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that same safety outside of 32-Bit Cafe spaces. If someone's behavior encroaches on our values as indicated in the Code of Conduct, whether that be harassing other members, having hateful content on their website they share with the community, making people feel uncomfortable in (or from) 32-Bit Cafe spaces, making callout posts in 32-Bit Cafe spaces, or harassing staff members, we will take action.

The moderators and members of the 32-Bit Cafe are not responsible for what is displayed on anyone's website; that responsibility lies with the website owners themselves.
